Summer view of the cottage from the Craig-y-Cilau Nature Reserve / Llangattock Escarpment. The village of Llangattock can be seen, with Crickhowell in the distance. The cottage is located in the middle foreground. The countryside surrounding the property harbours a range of wildlife such as sparrow hawks, peregrine falcons, foxes, owls and badgers. Trout can be found in the pond close by. A recent visitor to the cottage's bird table has been a lesser spotted woodpecker. In the skies above the cottage buzzards are regularly seen.

The limestone escarpment on the hillside above the cottage has a large cave network. Some of the caves have limited access restricted to experienced cavers such as the Agen Allwedd Cave. Others however are large and accessible such as Ogof Eglws Faen.

The view from Crickhowell back to the Llangattock Escarpment
Sugar Loaf Mountain is located a short distance away and is a pleasant walk with superb views of the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons and Severn Estuary
As well as Sugar Loaf Mountain there is Table Mountain an old Roman Fortress located above the town of Crickhowell
